The Chalk Box Kid

This week we are reading the story, "The Chalk Box Kid" as a whole class.  The students are learning how to clarify, predict, question and summarize as they read.  Today they were given a task to complete in small groups.  They were asked to create a three-dimensional model of the room Gregory turned into a garden.  In the story Gregory finds an old, abandoned burned down factory close to his house.  He finds chalk in this building.  Soon after finding this chalk he turns the walls of this factory into a garden.  Today all of the groups made a plan on how to create this 3D building.  Tomorrow they will start to make them.  The students are being asked to reread parts of the book, so their models are as accurate as possible.  I will post some of their models in the near future.
